Catholic Education
In 1995, parent and community stakeholders initiated the amalgamation of five school boards into what is now St. Paul Education. In doing so, St. Paul Education became the only school division in Alberta to operate both separate and public schools under one board. The Division’s religious, linguistic and cultural diversity is a source of strength and pride.
Catholic education is offered in the following schools:
Faith Permeation
The Alberta Human Rights Act requires a school board to give notice to a parent/guardian when courses of study, education programs, institutional materials, instruction or exercise include subject matter that deals primarily and explicitly with religion.
École Mallaig Community School, École Racette Junior High School and École St. Paul Elementary School are designated Catholic schools. The essential purpose of a Catholic school is to fully permeate Catholic theology, philosophy, practices and beliefs, the principles of the Gospel and teachings of the Catholic Church, in all aspects of school life, including in the curriculum of every subject taught, both within and outside of formal religion classes, celebrations and exercises.
Every course of study and educational program, all institutional materials, instruction and exercises will at all times include subject matter that deals primarily and explicitly with religion.
The mission of GrACE is to inspire, invigorate and embolden the spirit of Catholic education in order to unite, engage, educate and communicate with one voice.

- Catholic Education Sunday and Week 2024
Every year on the first Sunday in November we are invited to pray in a special way for all our students, teachers, staff, administrators, trustees and parents of our Catholic schools. Each year the Bishops of Alberta and Northwest Territories share a message for Catholic Education Sunday encouraging us in prayerful support of our Catholic schools.
Annually during this week we celebrate all that Catholic Education offers our families both within the context of the school and our ties to our local parishes. The Bishops from Alberta and Northwest Territories encourage us with a special letter about the role Catholic education plays in the formation of a person. Check out the events that happen during this week on your child’s school website and social media sites.
